Devon Mind (formerly Plymouth)
Please jump for Plymouth and District Mind because 1 in 4 of us will be affected by a mental health problem. Mental health problems are described using words that are in everyday use e.g, depression, anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, phobias, bipolar, personality and eating disorders and schizophrenia. We all have mental health, like we all have physical health. We are here to make sure no one has to face a mental health problem alone.
Formed in 1984, reflecting the needs of mental health service users and the community we serve. We have an open access centre which is run by peer support volunteers that provides a safe and welcoming environment for those with mental health problems and has organised activities and social events. We also raise understanding and awareness amongst the people of Plymouth and through our training courses which include Mental Health Awareness, Mental Health First Aid, and Self Harm Awareness we promote mental health and well being to employers and other organisations in Plymouth. Our Recovery College supports those who have experienced mental health issues, their family and friends by providing courses such as Mindfulness, Coping with Depression, Living Life to the Full and Exploring your Anger and some 1:1. The Cafe in the Park, which is open all year around to the general public, provides opportunities for individuals to gain confidence and employability skills. Plymouth and District Mind is a local charity which is affiliated to National Mind but relies solely on raising its own funding and donations to operate locally.
