The Big Issue Foundation

We're one of the smallest national homelessness charities. We might be a small organisation but we can have a BIG impact. We work with thousands of Big Issue vendors throughout the UK in their journey out of homelessness and without the help of supporters like you we would not be able to carry out the vital and lifesaving work that we do.

The Big Issue magazine started in 1991 to support homeless and vulnerably housed people to earn a legitimate income. Big Issue vendors always pay half of the cover price for their magazines and do essentially run their own microenterprise.

The Big Issue Foundation started in 1996 as the charity partner of The Big Issue magazine. We work with Big Issue vendors with their health, finance, housing and aspirations. Our service brokers help connect vendors with other organisations and services to help provide for them in their journey out of homelessness. Our vendor support fund aims to help vendors with essential purchases ranging from passports (to use as ID), a suit for an interview, college courses or basic equipment for new housing (such as a kettle, cutlery or a toaster). In this fund vendors will always contribute a minimum of 20% for the cost of their item/s.

We are a much smaller organisation than people often think and we rely almost entirely on donations from the public and events such as these. We can only carry out the amazing work we do with your support.
