Canopy piloting Nationals have been held at Skydive.Buzz (former Skydive UK) in Dunkeswell airfield for the 3rd consecutive year. This is the first time the competition was separated into Advanced Class and Pro Class. Both require CP2 to enter, but in the Advanced Class competitors do not need to drag water. The Competition is split into three disciplines: speed, distance and accuracy. UK CP Nationals in 2015 had 22 competitors; 17 in Pro Class and 5 in Advanced Class.
Weather conditions on Friday and Sunday were very poor with lots of rain, however Saturday had perfect blue skies with challenging wind conditions. The competition was completed in one day on Saturday 25th of July. Competitors completed 3 jumps in each discipline: Speed, Distance and Zone accuracy. 6 UK Canopy Piloting records were beaten.
The overall winner in the Pro Class was Alan Wez Westley, second place went to Martin Reynolds aka “Dangerpants” and to his own surprise third was Daniel Guest. Daniel is a home grown FF coach and camera man at Dunkeswell so everyone at the DZ is especially proud of his success.
The overall winner in the Advanced Class was Jack Bradford who is also a local jumper at Dunkeswell and is running our FS school. Second place went to Richie Taylor who is tandem instructor in Dunkeswell. Richie’s success was especially celebrated as he did his AFF level 1 only 3 years before this competition. Third place went to Scott Mckenzie who is CH coach at Dunkeswell.
New UK records were set at this competition on 25.07.2015. Speed record (2.347 which was set in South Africa by Wez Wesley in 2009) was beaten 4 times at the Nationals. The new record holder is again Wez Westley and it is 2.221
