FS Coach Training day 29th Jul 2017

The FS School are running two 'FS Coach Training days' and we'd love for you to come along: whether you're looking to become an FS coach, an 'approved' C licence jumper, or even if you have your rating already, we have plans to cater to everyone throughout the day.

You only need to attend one of the training days, but you can come along to both for more opportunity to practice what you learn (if you are interested but can't make it, we will plan to schedule another training day on a weekend shortly after these). The day will begin at 8:30am and run through the whole day. The DZ is open for an extra day on Thursday 3rd August, so if you’re coming from afar you can make the most of your journey and stay with us for 5 days on the trot (2nd-6th).

The day isn’t dependent on the weather, we have briefs and ground work that will benefit your learning.

A brief outline of what's planned:
- Methods of Instruction (MOI) brief
- What's involved in achieving FS1
- How the FS School works
- Briefing, jumping, and debriefing each other; alternating roles of student and coach
- Evaluation jumps*

There is no registration fee; the only things you’ll pay for are your jumps and some brews!

Pre-coach:
As someone working towards their FS coach rating, or wanting a chance to practice briefs and debriefs, this training day is a great opportunity for you to learn from current FS coaches and other skydivers in the same boat as you. We highly recommend that you shadow some coaches before coming along as this can give you an insight into what's involved and give you something to work off.

To become an FS coach you are required to have 200 jumps, 2 hours freefall, and 2 years in the sport (as well as CI recommendation and an MOI brief), but if you don’t currently meet these requirement there’s nothing stopping you from getting started to learn what’s involved and practice the skills you’ll need. See http://www.bpa.org.uk/assets/Training/Training-manuals/FS-Coaching-Manual-May-2013.pdf for the latest BPA FS Coaching manual.

Already a coach:
If you have your rating already, the day will provide an opportunity for you to learn different styles of coaching and potentially improve and expand your own teaching, as well as helping future coaches and aiding their progression in the sport.

Please email Cara at fs1@skydive.buzz if you have any questions, and to confirm that you will be attending.

(*with Jack Bradford who will provide more formal feedback. If all basic requirements are met, and flying and teaching skills are up to standard, you could be signed off for your FS coach rating. You will need to cover the evaluator’s slot.)

Turning Your Canopy & Landing Technique

2 part canopy course for all experience levels including 5 jumps.

Part A - Turning your canopy
“Pull left to go left and pull right to go right. Pull both to slow down”. It’s easy to come away from your groundschool thinking you know how to fly a parachute, but you soon realise that you’ve only scratched the surface. CH1 and CH2 teach us a little more, but still only give us the basics. Topics include:
-Toggles - How we use them
-Risers - Difference from toggles
-Rate of turn and altitude loss
-Coordinated turns & combination inputs
-Equipment impacts
-Correcting bad inputs

Part B - Perfecting Your Landing Technique
Do you struggle to land consistently on your feet, or do you struggle to deal with those “crosswind gusts” just as you come to flare? Are you as comfortable landing in nil winds or downwind as you are landing into a moderate headwind? Starting by defining what we mean by a good landing, we look at the following topics with video debriefs of up to 5 jumps to work on technique:
-2 stage flare
-Common landing problems
-Landing in different conditions
-The “cross-wind gust”
-The PLF
-Rear riser landings

Canopy course with Jack Bradford for all levels 16th Sep 2017

Advanced Landing Patterns & Avoiding Dangerous Situations

2 part canopy course for all experience levels including 5 jumps.

Part A - Advanced Landing Patterns
Making 2 left hand turns, avoiding the runway and landing near or in the circle seems simple enough, but can we do better? A good landing pattern will give us a high level of accuracy, sets us up for a comfortable landing and is easy to predict for others around us, as well as giving us plenty of alternate options should we need them. On most jumps we can get away with a half-assed pattern and reasonable accuracy, but that won’t always be the case. What if you’re landing off the DZ or find yourself heading towards another jumper on final? Or how about getting your display clearance? We’ll cover:
-Planning your canopy ride
-Building the stack
-Patterns in different conditions
-Making adjustments
-Dangerous habits

Part B - Avoiding Dangerous Situations
We all know that low turns are dangerous; yet dozens of skydivers every year continue to make low turns with often disastrous consequences. This is just one of the many situations that puts skydivers in danger every year. From a recap of the basics, to detailed knowledge and advanced techniques, we will cover the following topics to help you stay safe under canopy:
-Low turns
-Canopy collisions
-Turbulence
-Stalls
-Off landings

£200 including 5 jumps
